Illegal cigarette haul found

A SELF storage facility in Berwick is at the centre of a cigarette smuggling investigation after almost one million cigarettes and 100 kilos of hand rolling tobacco were seized by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).
HMRC uncovered what they believe to be an illegal cigarette distribution warehouse in two storage units and a freight container during raids at a commercial self-storage facility in the town on Tuesday.
The haul is estimated to be worth around £200,000 in unpaid excise duty and VAT.
